TAMPA - Former Tampa Bay Rays outfielder Elijah Dukes was arrested and jailed early Thursday in Tampa.

He was arrested shortly after 1 a.m. at North Nebraska Avenue and East Norfolk Street on charges of tampering with evidence, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license.

He was held on $4,750 bond.

Dukes, 27, was last jailed in 2011 on aggravated battery charges after he was accused of hitting his pregnant girlfriend.  Before that, he was arrested on other charges including contempt of court and failing to appear in court in a case involving child support and alimony.

Dukes, a Tampa native, was drafted by the Rays in 2002. He was traded to the Washington Nationals in 2007. He was released by the Nationals in 2010.
