LAS VEGAS - A former Tampa Bay Lightning player was sentenced in Las Vegas for sexually assaulting a girl for four years, beginning when she was 12.
The Associated Press reports that former defenseman Michael McBain was sentenced to four to 15 years in prison. McBain was drafted by the Lightning in 1995 and played from 1997 - 1999.
The girl's relatives cried has McBail was sentenced. He acknowledged his actions and said was was ready for any punishment handed out.
"I'm more sorry than words can describe," McBain, 36, said. "I take full responsibility for what I did."
McBain was also required to register for lifetime supervision as a sex offender.
Defense attorney Robert Draskovich called McBain "a very good man who did a very bad thing."
