TAMPA - Once again, Tampa is hosting the largest ballroom dance competition in America.
The Millenium Dancesport Championships boasts over 15,000 entries.
Star performers Karina Smirnoff and Anna Trebunskaya from Dancing with the Stars, plus Largo native and NYC Ballet soloist Savannah Lowery, will launch the Saturday night show.
"People come to the Millennium because it's glamorous and exciting," said organizer Michael Chapman. "The competitors are the best in the world, our ballroom décor is absolutely stunning and our shows feature the most talented performers in the industry. This year, we take inspiration from the Orient as we celebrate the Year of the Dragon with a dazzling Shanghai nightclub theme. You'll see lion dancers, martial artists and world-class dancing on Friday and Saturday nights."
Fellow ABC's DWTS cast member Jonathan Roberts and popular TV personality Mary Murphy of FOX's So You Think You Can Dance will be on the international panel of judges.
During the week long event, pro/am couples (professionals with their students like on DWTS) and youths compete during the day, while professional couples and daytime finalists take to the floor in the evenings. More than $125,000 in cash and prizes is at stake.
The competition runs all day long between June 19 -23 at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina, but spectators can come and go as they wish.
Spectator tickets for Day Sessions are $25, and Evening Sessions vary in price depending on the day - but generally run between $25-$150. A variety of packages are also available with hotel rooms and meals included. Seating is limited, so be sure to visit http://www.m2dance.com for more information.
