TAMPA, Fla. - A driver traveling in Tampa Sunday afternoon landed in the hospital after crashing into a self-storage center off Busch Boulevard.
According to the Hillsborough Sheriff's Office, 29-year-old Robert Santiago was speeding on I-275 when he got off at the Busch Boulevard exit and lost control of a 2005 Lexus he was driving around 4:40 p.m.
Santiago skidded through a red light, hit the train tracks and became airborne, deputies said, then crashed into a Mini Max storage center located at 8891 North Florida Avenue.
Santiago was taken to Tampa General Hospital but is expected to recover from his injuries. The car was totaled and the business suffered approximately $20,000 in damage.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
