TAMPA - Nebraska Avenue was closed from E. 19th Ave. to E. Forest St. (just north of Columbus Dr.) for more than two hours after a driver fell asleep and crashed into a telephone pole.
Tampa Police say the driver of a 2000 Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on N. Nebraska Ave just after 1:00 a.m. when she fell asleep, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole at E. Bryan Street.
The pole was broken off at the base and suspended by the overhead hanging wires. TECO responded and advised that the pole was not repairable and would have to be replaced.
Due to the traffic hazard of the low hanging wires, N. Nebraska Ave was currently closed to all vehicular traffic from E. 19th Ave. to E. Forest St. until around 6:30 a.m.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
