TAMPA - As the tragedy of the Sandy Hook school shooting unfolds, people in the bay area are asking how they can help. There are several organizations in and around Newtown, Connecticut who are heavily involved:

The American Red Cross of Connecticut initially provide blood platelets and plasma to the Danbury Hospital, where some of the victims were treated. Now Red Cross workers are setting up a family reception center to provide initial grief counseling.

The Newtown Youth and Family Services runs a nonprofit mental health clinic which is providing emergency counseling to families and the community.

A man was taken to the hospital Thursday after he was hit by a stray bullet while driving on SR-54 near Bruce Lane in Wesley Chapel. ABC Action News learned this is the second time a driver has been shot at on this stretch of road in the past year.
