TAMPA - Sarah Zimmers came home from getting a pizza for her family dinner around 8:30 Thursday night when she found the body of 18-year-old Grant Woodham.
"I went and got my husband. I told him that there was a body in our front yard. He came out and told me to get inside with our kids and he called 911," she said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said they are calling the scene a homicide. They say Woodham lives just over a mile from Zimmers' home.
The Zimmers' said they don't know Woodham or why he would end up there.
"You could tell he was in pretty bad shape. You couldn't tell what exactly happened to him, but it was not good," she said.
Deputies would not say what happened to Woodham, but said he suffered upper body trauma.
Investigators flew over the neighborhood snapping photographs of the scene. A blood trail remains on the sidewalk leading up to the Zimmers' household.
"I think he was trying to get help," said Zimmers.
As for the Zimmers, they said it will be hard to erase the memory of a night that was meant to be a quiet family dinner.
"It was horrible. It is a nightmare to be in your front yard with your kids and you don't know who this person is and you don't know where he came from," she said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information on the case to call Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS (8477).
