TALLAHASSEE, fla. - Former Tampa teacher Debra LaFave, convicted of having sex with a student, is going to remain on probation for now.
The Florida Supreme Court on Thursday turned down a request from LaFave to let her off probation while the court considers taking up her case.
A trial judge agreed to take LaFave off probation early, but an appeals court in August reversed that decision. LaFave appealed to the state Supreme Court and asked to remain off probation until a decision was made.
The state Supreme Court turned down LaFave's request. This means she must continue to abide by the conditions of her probation.
LaFave pleaded guilty in 2005 to having sex with a 14-year-old boy. She received no jail time but was scheduled to remain on probation until 2015.
