TAMPA - A Seffner dad was passed out in his motel room, while his two-year-old son wandered into the pool deck wearing nothing but a soiled diaper, Tampa Police said.
An employee at the Howard Johnson's motel on 50th Street found the child and called police. Officers found William Smith asleep on a bed in his room, according to a police report. They had to bang on the door for several minutes to wake the man.
Inside the room, they also found a one-year-old baby girl locked in the bathroom. She was also wearing nothing but a soiled diaper, police spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said.
McGregor said police found drugs in the room. They charged Smith with illegal drug possession and two counts of child neglect. The children were turned over to their mother.
