TAMPA - A C-17 Globemaster cargo plane inadvertently landed at Peter O. Knight airport Friday, leaving drivers on Davis Island to wonder why the large aircraft was there.

"It's coming down and I'm thinking, 'This guy is going into the bay,' he's not going to make it," said one witness. "He gets to the very, very, very end and he stops."

The Air Force said the aircraft, flying in support of U.S. Central Command, was apparently undamaged and there were no injuries.  There appears to be no damage to the airfield.

The plane was supposed to land at MacDill Air Force Base, and investigators are trying to determine how it ended up at the small airport four miles away.

The aircraft later relocated from Peter O. Knight airport.
