TAMPA - A robber pointed a gun at the manager of a McDonald's on Kennedy Boulevard Sunday night and demanded money. He took off on foot with cash from the safe, but didn't get far, police say.
The robbery occurred shortly after 10 p.m. at the restaurant at 4443 West Kennedy Boulevard.
Tampa police officers responded to a "robbery in progress" and began combing through the area. An officer was driving south on North Lois Avenue approaching Kennedy when he spotted the suspect running from the McDonald's.
The officer caught up with the suspect at 4100 West Kennedy and recovered the stolen cash and a handgun.
The suspect is identified as Mario James Allen, 23. He is charged with Armed Robbery and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
There were no injuries.
