TAMPA - The search continues for the two young Tampa boys who were allegedly kidnapped by their parents the day after they lost custody last Wednesday.
Cole, 4, and Chase, 2, have now been missing for six days.
On Friday afternoon, officials learned that 35-year-old Joshua Hakken, his wife, and their children may have been on a sailboat that was seen leaving the John’s Pass marina hours after the alleged abduction.
Witnesses say they saw the parents filling the boat with boxes of supplies.
Investigators say they focused their search efforts on the Gulf of Mexico, from Pensacola to Key West over the weekend, but the family remains missing.
This all happened after the couple’s 2006 Black GMC truck was found abandoned in a John’s Pass Parking garage late Thursday night.
Authorities say shortly after ditching the truck, they boarded a 25-foot sailboat with the word "salty" and a paw print on the stern--- a boat the sheriff's office says Joshua Hakken recently purchased.
Officials confirm they did stop a boat that they thought was the "Salty", but it turned out to be a false alarm.
Tips have been pouring into the sheriff's office as boaters have been asked to be on the look out for the family of four.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office says all of this was has been a well thought out plan.
"We heard phase one was completed and now phase two was in plan. It's definitely a coordinated plan. These are not dumb people. These are smart people with emotional issues. Our goal is to still resolve this peacefully," Detective Larry McKinnon.
Last week, there were active amber alerts in 4 states: Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama.
As of this morning, the alert is only active for Florida and Alabama, but this family could be anywhere.
Anyone with information is urged to called officials.
