TAMPA - As police searched for Dontae Morris, his family gathered at his mother's Tampa home.
A person inside told us through the door the family wants nothing to do with him.
"Have you spoken to Dante?” We asked. “We don't communicate," we were told by someone inside the home.
"We have nothing to say, nothing to do with it," the person went on to say.
Morris's rap sheet from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is 14 pages long. It shows his criminal career began in August 2002 with a charge of disturbing the peace. Days later, he was charged with vehicle theft. Weeks later, records indicate trouble for Battery, Drug Possession, and weapons charges.
In May of 2003, he was charged with resisting an officer. Then he was sentenced to 9 months in prison on cocaine charges.
After being released, he was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, attempted robbery and possession of a short barreled shot gun.
He was found not guilty.
There were violations of probation. Carjacking. Then more cocaine charges. He was released from prison in April after serving two years for cocaine possession and with intent to sell.
And now, he stands accused of the murder of not one, but two police officers .
