92-year-old hit by driver near Lakeland WalMart dies

LAKELAND, Fla. - A 92-year-old man who was hit by a driver Monday afternoon succumbed to his fatal injuries, the Lakeland Police confirmed.

Tomas Painter of Lakeland was hit while crossing the travel lane of the parking lot at the Walmart located at 5800 US 98 N Monday morning.

As the 92-year-old pedestrian walked, David McDaniel of Alabama was making a right turn to travel east in the same lane.

McDaniel, 52, hit Painter at a low speed.  Painter fell and he was taken to the Lakeland Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Painter died shortly after arriving at the hospital. His next of kin has been notified. Authorities will complete a follow investigation.
