TAMPA - A two-year-old was found wandering nude and alone in a Tampa neighborhood with more than sixty sexual predators and offenders living less than a mile from her.
The child's mother, Rosemarie Prado says she is guilty, but not for being a bad parent.
"No one can love their children more than I do. I'm just guilty of not having enough money to pay my bills."
Tampa Police disagree. Rosemarie and her husband Geoffrey were arrested. AllĀ five of their kids were removed from their mobile home to state custody.
"I am not a perfect mother. I do the best that I can."
But police say her best did not meet living standards. According to the police report, her home at the Oakrun Mobile Home Park, was filled with garbage, there was dried food on the floor, the kids were found dirty and wrapped in towels and there were live maggots.
A tearful Prado said she is doing the best she can, but she does not have a job and she is disabled. She said she simply did not know where to turn.
"I need help. I need help," she said.
But the living conditions alone, are not the only reason the couple landed in jail. Their youngest, a 2-year-old was found wandering seventy five feet from home nude and alone. If that was not dangerous enough, Police spokesperson Andrea Davis said she potentially could have been the target of more trouble.
"It is horrible and it is scary. We are very lucky that this complex, the people who worked there called police because who knows what could have happened to this little girl with all these sexual predators and offenders living in this short and small area," Davis said.
We found more than sixty sexual offenders and predators that live less than a mile from the Prado's. Rosemarie says she did not know about the danger, and that this was just a horrible mistake.
"I am sure my daughter is not the only child who wandered out of their house when their parents were asleep. I am sure there are other kids who have done that. I know it is not an excuse. I can not stay up twenty four hours a day."
The kids are now being watched around the clock by state investigators. Prado will see them Friday.
"I go without so they can have they are my life and no one can say any thing different. I would never intentionally harm them," she said.
Rosemarie will have a chance to get them back but she'll have to plead her case in court at the end of the month. The five kids are 2, twins that are 4, and a 5-year-old.
