TAMPA - Officials at two Tampa schools say they'll be closing down when the Republican National Convention comes to town in late August because of potential protests and traffic concerns.

St. John's Episcopal Parish Day School and Tampa Preparatory School have told parents it is in the best interest of the students to shut down from Aug. 27-30. The convention will take place at the Tampa Bay Times Forum in downtown Tampa.

Other nearby schools may follow suit.

St. John's has 240 students in grades five through eight. The school is located across the Hillsborough River from the Tampa Convention Center. Tampa Prep has 585 students in grades six through 12.
