ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The registered sex offender accused of making friends with young boys at skate parks, now has several warnings posted there with his face on them.
Police arrested Cornelius Ivery earlier this month for using the internet to solicit a 13-year-old boy and having inappropriate conduct with him. The boy's mother, Noweta Sanchez, found out by reading his text messages and getting into his Facebook account.
Wednesday night, she and the boy's step father, Damon Chepren, went to the Fossil skatepark in St. Petersburg to post flyers warning everyone about Ivery who hangs out there.
"I'm here because we just need to get the word out to these kids and to the parents," Chepren said. "This is a guy that has hidden his identity, has befriended kids, teens, and young teens in a park that is supposed to be a safe place."
While Ivery is still in jail, Chepren said prosecutors told them they may have to drop one of the two charges against him.
"I'm extremely aggravated that they would even consider it," he said.
For now, the parents are turning their anger into action by spreading the word about Ivery. They don't want any other kids making the wrong friends.
"It's just to make everyone else aware of what he's capable of and if there's anyone else out there that he has tried anything with, they should know there is people out there that they can go to," Sanchez said.
