ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Firefighters made their way into a burning house shortly before noon Wednesday and saved three dogs and a cat from severe smoke inhalation using special pet oxygen masks.

When Fire Rescue units arrived at the single family home at 835 39th Avenue North, heavy fire was coming from the rear of the residence.

Crews made their way inside looking for possible victims and found three chihuahuas and a cat.

The animals were taken outside and treated with the special equipment.  When the owner arrived home, the pets were in stable condition and taken to a veterinarian.

There were no other injuries.

Damage to the 1,350 square-foot home is estimated at $75,000.
