ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Derby Lane Dog Track according to St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue. Fortunately, the 40 to 50 dogs housed in the kennel were relocated in time without injury.
The kennel is detached from the main building.
Fire crews arrived shortly after 2:40 a.m. and put out the fire quickly. They remained on scene for several hours putting out hot spots.
Derby Lane features parimutuel wagering with racing American Greyhounds in addition to other forms of gambling according to their web site. Events scheduled for tonight are planned as usual.
No injuries were reported and the fire's cause remains under investigation.
