ST. PETERSBURG - A St. Petersburg man hid a Sony Playstation remote control in his pocket and pretended it was a gun as he tried to rob a convenience store, St. Petersburg Police said.

The robbery was foiled and Cameron Pittman, 20, was charged with armed robbery after a police officer walked in on the heist, said police spokesman Mike Puetz.

Pittman was a suspect in an earlier robbery at a Subway restaurant, Puetz said. The police officer got a tip Pittman was hanging out near the Sun Food Store at 2210 62nd Avenue South.

"He (the officer) was looking for him and went into that store," said Puetz. "Lo and behold, Pittman was committing another robbery."

Puetz said Pittman dropped the remote and gave up when confronted by the officer.
