ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - St. Petersburg Police Chief Chuck Harmon announced on Wednesday that he will retire early next year.
His planned departure date, barring any unforeseen circumstances, will be January 6, 2014.
Harmon, 53, has been with the department for three decades. He joined the department in November 1982 and became a sworn officer in May of the following year.
After a long list of accomplishments, he was appointed Chief of Police in December 2001 and has overseen all operations for nearly 12 years.
Harmon says he looks forward to spending more time with his wife, Lori, and their children.
Chief Harmon will meet with the media later this afternoon.
