ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The woman suspected of fatally stabbing her significant other early Tuesday morning has turned herself in.
Sharon Byrd, 46, turned herself in to police just after 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, police responded to a stabbing at the Osprey Pointe apartment complex in the 1700 block of 57 Terrace South shortly before 2 a.m.
They found Russell Byrd, 44, with wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 2 a.m.
According to a police statement, the victim and Sharon Byrd were involved in an alcohol-related argument that began after the victim talked to a female on the phone. The female turned out to be a Russell Byrd's sister.
During the argument, Byrd threatened to kill Russell Byrd. As the altercation escalated, Byrd went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife. She then stabbed the victim, according to a witness who knew Byrd and the victim.
Byrd then fled the scene.
It is believed that Russell and Sharon Byrd were legally married, but that was not confirmed.
