St. Petersburg bank robbery apparently began with woman being carjacked at gunpoint

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A St. Petersburg bank robbery apparently began with a woman being carjacked at gunpoint Friday afternoon, according to police.

Officers were called to Jo-Ann's Fabrics at 2500 66th Street North around 1:45 p.m. for a report of a carjacking.

The female victim said she was confronted in the parking lot by a male suspect who brandished a handgun and demanded her car, a dark grey 2010 4-door Toyota Camry.

He took off heading south on 66th Street.

The victim was not hurt.

About ten minutes later, a robbery was reported at the Wells Fargo Bank at 3131 66th Street North.

There were no injuries and the suspect apparently drove off in the carjacking victim's Toyota.

The car was found a few blocks from the bank and it's believed the suspect was either picked up or had another vehicle waiting for him.

The suspect is described as a black male, late teens to early twenties, 6'0" to 6'3", 220 lbs, wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and carrying a backpack.

Police plan to release surveillance video from the bank.
