ST. PETERSBURG - An intoxicated man lying down in a St. Pete road was killed after a driver ran over him in a hit and run Wednesday night.
The victim was heard shouting out to witnesses moments before he was killed, according to a St. Petersburg Police report.
The accident happened on the 700 block of 4th Avenue North at 8:40 p.m.
The victim was lying across the roadway as a dark colored Nissan sedan was headed east in the north curb lane of 4 th Avenue at a high rate of speed.
The pedestrian continued to shout at witnesses as the car maneuvered into the south curb lane of 4th Avenue North.
As the driver changed lanes, the car collided with man and drove over his body.
The driver drove east on 4th Avenue North and fled the scene.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect’s vehicle was described as a newer model, black or dark colored, mid-sized Nissan sedan.
