ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A St. Petersburg officer shot at a car as it sped away from an armed robbery, shooting a suspect in the leg Thursday night.
All of the suspects were minors.
According to St. Petersburg police, as they were chasing a vehicle southbound on 34th Street North, a robbery suspect inside pointed a gun at the officers in pursuit.
Officer Nicolo Mangiaracina, 33, fired back at the suspects' vehicle.
Around 6:45 p.m., officers responded to a robbery alarm at the Scorpion Tobacco Shop at 1116 34th Street North, and arrived as two armed suspects exited the business and ran to an awaiting vehicle.
The suspects got in the vehicle, and was in a hit and run crash as it exited the parking lot. That's when police say a suspect aimed a gun at them, and an officer fired.
The suspects' vehicle crashed somewhere in the area of about 3rd Avenue North and 34th Street North.
The officers and suspect Jahlil Cobbs were taken to the hospital Thursday.
The officers were released from the hospital.
Cobbs, 16, a passenger in the stolen Nissan Altima, had a non-life threatening gunshot wound in the leg, and was arrested after his release from the hospital.
Jahi Williams, the 15-year-old driver of the stolen Nissan Altima and River Tremblay, the 15-year-old look-out during the robbery, have also been arrested.
