ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - The driver of a motorized scooter was killed after crashing into a wheelchair in St. Petersburg Tuesday night.

Robert W. Kurczaba, 56, was attempting to cross 4th St. at the 1400 block in his wheelchair when the bike, heading south, collided with him.  After the collision, the 2011 Kymco motor bike went down, partially ejecting driver Thomas L. Wiemken.  He was not wearing a helmet.

Wiemken, 59, was transported to Bayfront Medical Center where he died as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.

The driver of the wheelchair was transported to St. Anthony's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
