ST. PETERSBURG, Fla - A suspect has been arrested in the death of a man whose body was found in an apartment Friday morning.
Officers were called to 364 8th Street North around 10 a.m. The body of a 52-year-old white male was found in the rear garage apartment at that address.
Initially, the suspect, 45-year-old Michael James Osentoski, told officers he and the victim were roommates and that he found the body after returning to the apartment that morning and finding a bloody baseball bat nearby.
He claimed he and the victim had been friends for years.
After further questionin,g Osentoski admitted to killing the victim, saying they had gotten into an argument over the sharing of a cigarette and beer.
He claimed the victim hit him and he struck back with the bat.
Osentoski was charged with second-degree murder.
Police have identified the victim, but next of kin have not been found.
