ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A man believed to be responsible for a string of burglaries at coin-operated laundromats was caught in the act by a surveillance camera last week. St. Petersburg detectives are asking the public to help identify him.
The video (in the player above) was taken in the early morning hours of February 9.
The suspect tried to pry open a dryer's coin box with a screwdriver, but took off when an alarm sounded. No money was taken in the attempt, but police believe he is behind as many as six other similar burglaries.
He is described as a white male, 5'5" to 5'8", dark wavy hair and clean shaven. In the video, he was wearing a dark hooded jacker, dark pants and light colored sneakers. He had a backpack and was riding a mountain-style bicycle.
Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Petersburg Police Department at 727-893-4066 or utilize the TIP line at 727-892-5000.
