ST. PETERSBURG - A local group says they are doing everything they can to help sell out the Tampa Bay Rays game Wednesday night at 7:10 against the Texas Rangers.
The "Top Off the Trop" group says they want to show Major League Baseball that St. Pete and the Bay Area, for that matter, care about the Rays and they don't want to even entertain the thought of losing the team.
A team that has called Tropicana Field home since 1998. But with lackluster attendance for consecutive years and revenue losses due to declining interest, the conversation continues. Is St. Pete the right place for the ball club?
Commissioner Bud Selig even threatening to step in if things don't get any better.
Now, the Top Off the Trop crew has been pushing this grassroots effort to get the 40,000 plus seat ball park filled Wednesday night at the game versus the Texas Rangers televised by ESPN. Its the second to last home stand for the Rays.
