ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A 13-year-old boy has been charged with attempted first degree murder after shooting a 15-year-old boy at close range in St. Petersburg.
The incident occurred Wednesday night in the 1700 block of 26 th Street South.
Police say the victim was involved in a verbal confrontation with a group of three or four other juvenile males.
During the argument, a 13-year-old member of the group pulled a handgun out of his pocket and fired multiple rounds at the 15-year-old in the upper body at close range.
The victim fled to a nearby home on 16 th Avenue South and the residents there called 911.
The suspect and the rest of his group fled from the scene before law enforcement arrived.
The victim was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, and then later taken to All Children’s Hospital in serious, but stable condition.
Friday at 1:30 p.m., the 13-year-old turned himself in to homicide detectives at St. Petersburg Police headquarters in the presence of his attorney.
He will be taken to the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with one count of Attempted First Degree murder.
