ST. PETERSBURG - A 10-year-old St. Petersburg boy was seriously hurt after he was struck by a car on 4th Street North Monday afternoon.
According to St. Petersburg Police, Marcelo Lynch was one of three kids who ran across 4th St. at 7th Avenue N. just after 12 p.m.
While investigators say two of the children stopped in the median, Lynch continued into the southbound lanes, police said.
One driver saw the children and was able to stop, but a second car, a 2006 Mitsubishi driven by Tierre Smith, veered to the right and hit Lynch with the front end of her car.
He struck the hood of Smith's car and was hurled forward onto the pavement. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in critical condition.
He has since been transferred to All-Children's Hospital.
Smith told police she did see the first car braking but did not see the kids crossing the street.
She was braking at the time of the crash. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to have played a role in the accident, and Smith has not been charged with a crime.
