SEMINOLE, Fla. - A family is safe after a one-alarm garage fire destroyed their Seminole home, killed their pets and knocked out the power for many of their neighbors, according to Seminole Fire and Rescue.
The parents were inside their home on the 8500 block of Forsyth Dr. N sleeping when their son went to take out the trash around 11:20 p.m.
The son saw smoke coming from the garage, went back inside the home and alerted his parents.
The entire family got out of the home safely and called 911. However, the family’s four cats, including two 18-year-olds, died in the fire.
The fire cut off power for many of the neighbors, but Progress Energy is working to fix the problem.
The fire is under investigation.
