PINELLAS PARK, Fla. - A Florida Highway Patrol State Trooper shot and wounded a man at the Chapel of the Royal Palm Cemetery in Pinellas Park on Monday morning. The man was taken to a hospital.
Dozens of crime scene technicians, detectives and other officers combed through an area behind the cemetery, located at 2600 Gandy Boulevard.
Officials with the FHP say Trooper Daniel Cole, a 13-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol, was involved, but not injured.
Reports of gunfire in that area were initially made shortly before 6:00 in the morning.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating, and the Pinellas Sheriff's Office and Pinellas Park Police are assisting on this case.
No one is saying much more at this point about why the suspect was in the cemetery or how the trooper came to encounter him.
