RIVERVIEW, Fla. - Hillsborough County authorities served a search warrant to the family of Riverview home after the 6-year-old boy who lived there showed up to school with dozens of tax return credit cards Monday.
Officials responded to the home on the 6900 block of Hawthorne Trace after the child’s teacher called authorities.
A Symmes Elementary School teacher found more than 50 Turbo Tax refunds and gift cards while she was getting homework from the child’s backpack.
When questioned, the boy said he got the cards from his mother and father.
The teacher called officials and detectives obtained a search warrant to investigate possible tax fraud in the child’s home.
A woman was located at the home and questioned, but her boyfriend could not be found. Officials are trying to find the man who resides at the home.
Investigators were seen bringing items outside of the home yesterday, but no arrests have been made yet.
Records are being examined as officials work to identify the victims whose tax returns and identities have been compromised.
