PARRISH, Fla. - U.S. Highway 301 was shutdown Sunday afternoon after a fatal accident, Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported.

Troopers say a Chevy pick-up driven by Flaviano Avalos, 63, ran a stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Moccasin Wallow Road.

Avalos crossed into the path of Tyler Bell, 23, who was traveling north on 301 in a Silverado pick-up. The two cars collided.

Bell sustained minor injuries and was treated at Manatee Memorial.

Avalos and his passenger, Claudia Avalos, 55, died as a result of the crash.

FHP says all lanes of U. S. 301 have been reopened.
