SARASOTA, Fla. - Three boaters were rescued early Thursday morning after boat engine problems left them stuck near Big Sarasota Pass, according to the Coast Guard.
The father of one of the boaters contacted the Coast Guard Sector of St. Petersburg at 9:45 Wednesday night and reported his son and two of his friends were overdue from a fishing trip.
A Coast Guard helicopter and a response boat team were launched to search for the three men just after 11:30 p.m.
The Helicopter spotted the missing boaters after they shot off a flare at 12:30 a.m.
The rescue crew discovered that the vessel became disabled because of the engine.
The vessel was towed to Coquina Boat Ramp in Bradenton Beach. No one was injured.
