SARASOTA, Fla. - A Bradenton man is facing a manslaughter charge after he fled from a fatal crash early Friday morning.
Siosaia Fonua, 29, was driving under the influence of alcohol when the accident occurred, according to a Manatee County report.
Fonua was headed north on SR683 in the center lane approaching the intersection at 47th Street in Sarasota.
A second driver, 55-year-old Scott Parker, was driving west on 47th Street, approaching the intersection with SR63.
When both vehicles entered the intersection, Fonua hit the left side of Parker’s vehicle.
Law enforcement found Fonua and arrested him.
Fonua fled the scene on foot. Parker was pronounced dead as a result of injuries from the crash.
Fonua is charged with DUI Manslaughter, Driving on a Suspended License and Leaving the Scene of a Crash Involving Death.
The suspect has an extensive criminal record in Manatee County, stemming back to 2001, including charges of strong armed robbery and battery.
