SARASOTA, Fla. - The Sarasota County Fire Department and other emergency responders are at the scene of a three-alarm incident caused by a gas leak and water main break at the corner of S. Osprey Avenue and Grove Street.
Water and power have been shut off in the area, and all structures within 300 feet of the incident have been evacuated.
TECO said one of its crews hit an unmarked water line. The force of the water caused part of a road to wash out and the asphalt to collapse and rupture a gas line.
Repairs are expected to take 2-3 hours.
The water main break impacted service to Southside Elementary School. Because of a lack of water and power, students were transported to Brookside Middle School.
