SARASOTA, FLA. - Tonga Drive is quiet. Too quiet for Buck and Darlene Tolberte. "They seemed nice. We walked by there every day walking the dog. They would always say hi," said Buck Tolberte.
Whenever they saw their neighbors 82 year old Isabelle Moak, her 80 year old husband Thomas, their 62 year old daughter, Renee O'Connor and their son 58, year old Thomas Moak Jr. they would wave or say hello.
"There was never anything that would insinuate that there was a problem in that house," said neighbor Bob Rebey. Something horrible did happen late Friday night. Sarasota County Sheriff deputies said a call came in from a relative of the Moak's claiming Thomas Moak Jr. told them he killed his parents and sister.
Deputies made a welfare check. When they arrived, they said Moak Jr. threatened to kill himself, but then surrendered. When deputies went inside the Moak's house they made a gruesome discovery. "There was no signs, no warning signs. There was no instability just something caused him to snap," said Wendy Rose with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.
Saturday morning Thomas Moak Jr. appeared agitated as a judge and lawyers met during his first appearance. Neighbors said he moved in with his family after losing his job. "A lot of people are struggling, but life is worth living and I don't understand how anyone can take anyone's life especially your family member's," said Darlene Tolberte.
Neighbors said it will be hard to forget the family on Tonga Drive, but they will move on. "We can't let something like this effect the way we live," said Buck Tolberte.
Thomas Moak Jr's. new residency for now, is the Sarasota County jail. He is being held without bond.
