LIDO KEY, Fla. - The Lido Regency Condominium in Sarasota was evacuated after an unoccupied apartment caught fire Tuesday morning, according to Sarasota County Fire crews.

Officials say apartment 12B was being used as a meth lab, and held oxygen tanks, compressed gas tanks along with unidentified chemicals.

Fire officials responded to the complex, located at 1700 Ben Franklin Drive, at 8:30, and a hazmat team was brought in to remove a badly damaged compressed air tank.  It could have exploded.

All 13 floors, some 40 tenants, were evacuated, and residents were taken to a nearby Holiday Inn.

Eight firefighters were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and treated for possible exposure to the chemicals.
