Charter school karate teacher arrested for sex with student

SARASOTA, Fla. - Deputies arrested a karate teacher at a Sarasota charter school for allegedly having sex with a student seven years ago.
A former student told detectives that John Garcia, 47, had sex with her in his classroom at Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences when he was 41 and she was just 14 years old.
"Mr. Garcia has been suspended with pay," said Tara Tahmosh, principal of Sarasota School of Arts and Sciences. "The school and its staff will cooperate fully with law enforcement officials and await the results of the investigation. The safety and well being of our students is our first and foremost priority."
Garcia was taken into custody Friday morning and is being held in Sarasota County Jail without bond.
