SARASOTA, Fla. - A man who showed up at hospital a day after sustaining possible gun wounds says he doesn’t remember much of anything. Manatee deputies are calling the incident a suspicious circumstance.
Michael Marrero told authorities he was drinking and is having trouble recalling where the incident happened and who he was with when he got injured.
Deputies responded to Sarasota Memorial after hospital officials contacted them about a possible gunshot victim Tuesday.
Marrero came to the hospital with a puncture wound below his ankle near the bottom of his feet.
When deputies met with Marrero, he told them that he met up with a friend in his Sarasota home and then drove to a party in Oneco.
Authorities say he was either unable or unwilling to disclose the location of the place where the incident happened or the name of the friend he was with at the time.
Marreco says he was drinking heavily, standing at a party in the front yard of the unspecified location when he heard gunshots.
He says the shots were fired in the distance and didn’t alarm him.
It wasn’t until Tuesday that he noticed he had a puncture wound below the ankle near the bottom of his foot from a metal object. The hospital couldn’t confirm if the object was a bullet, bullet fragment or pellet.
The victim was referred to a surgeon and released from the hospital.
