PALMETTO, Fla. - Three suspects are in custody after opening fire near a Palmetto youth football game, then leading law enforcement on a chase into Bradenton.
According to Palmetto Police Deputy Chief Scott Tyler, a car with four occupants stopped in front of the Palmetto Youth Center while the game was ongoing around 2:30 p.m. Two suspects exited the car and began opening fire with handguns on two spectators that were leaving the parking lot on foot.
The spectators were not hit, but bullets struck a parked car and a tree.
Officers working the game and other spectators saw the suspects' vehicle speed off and alerted other officer, who attempted to stop the vehicle.
The suspects continued to flee into Bradenton and Manatee County Sheriff's deputies joing the chase. It ended when the vehicle's tires ran over stop sticks deployed by deputies in the 1600 blockf of 26th Ave. E.
Of the four occupants of the vehicle, three were arrested. Darion Lazier, 23, of Bradenton, has been charged with attempted murder and fleeing to allude. Two minors, age 15 and 17, are facing similar charges.
The minor suspects will not be identified by ABC Action News unless they are charged as adults.
Two handguns were recovered.
