One dead, highway SR 64 closed in Myakka City after head on crash between SUVs

MYAKKA CITY - A driver was killed Tuesday evening after his SUV crossed the center line and crashed head-on to another SUV, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A gray Mazda SUV traveling eastbound on SR 64 in Myakka city was driven over the line and hit a White  Ford Explorer in a head-to head crash.

The driver of the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three people in the Explorer were taken to the hospital, one of them airlifted.

SR 64 remains closed near Verna Bethany Rd. in Myakka City, but is expected to open for rush hour Wednesday morning.
