BRADENTON, Fla. - An 11-year-old boy is without his pinky finger and his family’s dog after a tragic ordeal that happened Friday evening.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reported that Fernando Brignoni had stuck his hand through a cage containing a husky mix type dog at a home on 22nd Street Court in Bradenton.
Update: Fernando was released from the hospital Monday.
According to Luis Brignoni, the father of the boy, the dog thought she had grabbed hold of the boy’s watch and was playing with him. In reality, she had bitten down on the boy’s pinky finger and was thrashing it around as if it were a toy.
Brignoni said he had just stepped out of the shower and heard screaming coming from the other room.
When he arrived he saw his son bleeding and screaming. Brignoni claims his other son had struck the dog over the head in an attempt to get the finger, but it was too late. The dog had swallowed it.
Deputies say Brignoni then got a gun and shot the dog. He tried to retrieve his son’s pinky from the dog’s stomach and waited for emergency responders to arrive.
Fernando was flown to St. Petersburg Hospital and later transferred to Tampa General. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to reattach the boy’s pinky.

Details are very sketchy tonight, but Tampa Police homicide detectives are on scene of what appears to be the shooting death a person found in a Yellow Cab.
