ANNA MARIA ISLAND, Fla. - The body of the 14-year-old boy swept away while swimming off Anna Maria Island was found Sunday morning, Manatee County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dave Bristow said.
Dushay Nelson's body was found around 9 a.m. Sunday in the Gulf close to where he was caught in a current Saturday afternoon. Earlier reports of the boy's name were Dushay Morales, but Bristow confirmed his name as Dushay Nelson Sunday with family members.
According to Coast Guard and Manatee County Sheriff's officials, witnesses said Dushay Nelson, of Winter Haven, was swept underwater at the end of Willow Avenue while swimming with another boy and his family.
"Another boy was also caught in the current but he was able to get to shore and is OK," Bristow said.
Bristow said the boys were in knee-deep water when they were caught up in the current.
The Coast Guard said they were informed of the incident after receiving a 911 call reporting the boy went under and did not resurface around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
The search was called off late Saturday night because of darkness but resumed Sunday at first light.
