WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -
Winter Haven Police are trying to find a man who they said attacked a 22-year-old woman Sunday evening along Avenue G SE.
"It really shocks me because you don't hear of something like that happening in this neighborhood," said neighbor Catricia Jeanlouis.
Police said the young woman was walking home from delivering food to an elderly couple who lives just a few doors down when a vehicle resembling an unmarked patrol car approached. "The driver opened the door and grabbed her left arm and attempted to drag her into the vehicle," said Winter Haven Police spokesperson Jamie Brown. "She was able to punch the suspect in the face."
The young woman escaped. Police are now working with a vague description of him. "He's a black male, in his mid 20s to early 30s, clean shaven, about 5 foot 8 inches, 180 pounds," said Brown. "We do know she looked at him just enough to where she knows he had a diamond earring in one of his ears."
"That scares me because I have a son, and I have a sister, and that scares me that he's still driving around, lurking," said Jeanlouis.
As an added layer of concern, police pointed out the attack happened along a street that is directly across the street from Winter Haven High School, where school lets back in in about a month.
The victim told ABC Action News she is now "terrified" and hopes anyone with helpful information will call the Winter Haven Police Department.
The vehicle is described as a dark-colored retired unmarked law enforcement Crown Victoria. The vehicle may or may not have the spotlight.
Anyone with information about this suspect is asked to call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS (8477). Callers can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a CASH reward.
