POLK COUNTY, Fla. - A portion of Highway 60 in Polk County was closed Wednesday morning following a deadly head-on crash involving a semi tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle. The highway was reopened shortly after 2 p.m.
The lanes have been reduced from two lanes to one lane in each direction for an approximately 1/4 mile section of the roadway (just west of Indian Lake Estates & County Road 630). Repairs are being made and all lanes are expected to be open on Thursday.
The crash occurred west of Indian Lakes Estates, west of 630 on Highway 60. The crash sparked a fire.
Both the driver of the semi and the driver of the passenger vehicle were killed.
Preliminary information indicates the driver of the passenger car may have been driving the wrong way.
No names have been released and the investigation is ongoing.
