Megan Kimbrough, 26, died as the result of an infection, says family members

POLK COUNTY, Fla - Megan Kimbrough, 26, died Saturday at Tampa General Hospital with her mother by her side.  Kimbrough was burned alive back in August.

Police say Megan's husband, Joshua Kimbrough, 32, doused her in gasoline and then lit her on fire inside of their Lakeland home.  Megan ran out of the home and neighbors threw blankets on her to put out the flames.  Megan was burned over 80 percent of her body.

Airlifted to the burn unit, doctors did not initially think Megan would make it through the night but she did.  In the following months, Megan underwent 12 skin graft surgeries. 

On Friday night, Megan's mother, posted the following comment on the outreach page she set up on Facebook:

"Meg is having a rough morning and my heart is breaking and for as long as there is light in her beautiful eyes I will hold onto hope. When I was with her last night I desperately wanted to hold her but I can not so I will wrap my love around her and give her comfort and continue to talk to her about our loving God."

Megan's father, Teddy Lawhorn, emailed the following statement to ABC Action News Saturday night regarding his daughter's passing: " Thanks to all that have had Megan in their thoughts and prayers.  She will be greatly missed.  I love you Meg."

By Megan's side stood Audrey Mabry.  A domestic violence and burn survivor, Mabry pledged to stay by Megan's side through her recovery.  She even started a fund and raised thousands of dollars to put towards Megan's medical bills. 

Mabrey was in the process of divorcing her husband, Christopher Hanney, in November of 2009 when he attacked her in their Apollo Beach house. Hanney grabbed Mabrey, took her to the garage, beat her with a hammer, doused her with gasoline and then tossed a lit candle at her and set her on fire.

Hanney was found guilty of attempted murder, aggravated battery and arson.

Joshua appeared in court August 5 and appeared disinterested in the proceedings.  Police said after Joshua lit his wife on fire, he went on a crime spree where he stole a car at gunpoint, burglarized a house and then used a stolen credit card at a gas station.
