AVON PARK, Fla. - Sixty-one juveniles are facing charges in relation to an August riot at the Department of Juvenile Justice’s Avon Park Youth Academy, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
According to investigators, the riot started after a group of teens reneged on a bet for three cups of noodles.
The sheriff says they stole golf carts, threw TVs through windows, and caused extensive damage to 18 of the 20 buildings at the all-male Avon Park Youth Academy.
It took about 150 law enforcement officers to bring the situation under control.
The criminal charges the juveniles are charged with include riot, burglary, arson, felony criminal mischief, and grand theft.
